History of One for the Cupboard

ORIGINAL POST MARCH 2017

1 For The Cupboard
Let me start with a brief history...
I was blessed with parents who loved others. The lessons learned by witnessing their kinship through acts of hospitality, compassion and generosity have transcribed themselves into my DNA. Through the prism of their kindnesses I view my path in this lifetime...having responsibility to carry on simple acts that might bring ease, joy or peace to someone with whom we share this life's journey.
With that thought in mind, I want (pathologically "need", perhaps) to help raise money for our local food pantry.
The thought has been needling me since CornerSmiths opened in 2011...maybe because of the store's position at the intersection across from the historic Town Hall, the legendary Barber Shop and the popular Harvest Moon Cafe - I have sensed an un-tapped power source in our great little town.
I would muse, "If we could just get all the people who come and go through this intersection, in one day, to line-up from Town Hall to the Food Pantry on West Waterloo...with just 1 canned good or $1...a difference could be made physically and emotionally for our community".
Since the inception of my imaginary project I've been calling it "1 For The Cupboard". I have envisioned hundreds of people, arm-to-arm, from Town Hall to as far as I can see on Waterloo...with one dollar or one canned good in hand as a simple act with multiplying potential.
But that's my pipe dream...
In the meantime...I'm feeling compelled to take action...in the smallest way.
Beginning on March 1 (Ash Wednesday) until the day before Easter, April 15, I am going to walk from CornerSmiths, 1 S. High St, Canal Winchester, OH, to the Community Food Pantry on 360 W. Waterloo with $1 or 1 canned good. I believe the trek is .6 miles each way.
6 days a week I will walk or ask someone to walk on my behalf. (Sunday's I won't be walking but will add the $1 to Saturday's trip.)
If anyone wants to join me I would love the company and the pantry could benefit by each dollar as they are in the process of building a new facility on Groveport Rd to help benefit those in need. If you would like me to walk on your behalf I would eagerly deliver your "1 For The Cupboard".
